THE TEDDY FUND
“The Teddy Fund,” was established to support Animal Protection of New Mexico’s program that underwrites the cost of animal control officers to attend training through the National Animal Control Association. In six years, APNM has underwritten over $75,000 in training scholarships and stipends for law enforcement officers across New Mexico.
In 2010 Animal Protection of New Mexico underwrote the cost of 13 law enforcement officers representing 13 different communities to attend the week-long National Animal Control Association academy. Officers learned how to investigate reports of cruelty to animals, including animal fighting, enforce animal cruelty laws and improve standards of care for animals in shelters. Raising professional standards through such formal training has had direct, dramatic and positive effects on New Mexico’s animals.
To Date: APNM has underwritten 162 scholarships, covering more than 50 agencies across New Mexico.
In 2011 Animal Protection of New Mexico will continue to underwrite scholarships to provide higher education for law enforcement officials who work with animals on a daily basis.
The mission of the National Animal Control Association (NACA) is to define and promote professionalism in the animal protection care and humane law enforcement field by providing quality services, education, training, and support.Learn more about The National Animal Control Association at nacanet.org.
The Teddy behind “The Teddy Fund”
Teddy, a wonderful pit bull, had a great life. Things could have been very different had his mother not been found— terrified and pregnant on the streets of New York. Kind people saved that pit bull who gave birth to 8 healthy pups on a couch in a warm and loving home. Randi Bildner of Animal Protection of New Mexico adopted one. That puppy was Li’l Teddy Lew. Teddy Lew never, for one second of his life, knew anything but kindness. He never knew the horrific things done to many of his brethren.
When he was a puppy he was treated with great love, the way all puppies deserve to be treated. He grew into an amazing dog. Teddy never feared people, loud sounds or the litany of things that often frighten animals who are abused. In fact, Teddy feared nothing. Each person who came his way was a friend—for Teddy, it was not in his consciousness that people could possibly hurt him.
Teddy’s smile captivated all who got to know him as well as the stranger on the street. It would be impossible to count the times when someone stopped in his presence to say, “What a beautiful dog!” This happened, without question every time we were “out on the town”… and Teddy was just that, beautiful inside and out, a dog raised with love and kindness.
In return he gave us great love, selflessness, many laughs and warmth that was immeasurable. In honor of Teddy, a true ambassador for his breed, please support “The Teddy Fund”.
TEDDY TAUGHT THE TRUTH. A PIT BULL IS ONE AMAZING DOG. PLEASE GIVE OTHER ANIMALS A CHANCE TO BRIGHTEN OUR LIVES—FOR TEDDY.
