Randi Bildner, Development Associate for Animal Protection of New Mexico and founder of APNM’s “The Teddy Fund”, with Officer Garrett, a proud recipient of training thanks to “The Teddy Fund.” |
|
“The Teddy Fund” was established to support Animal Protection of New Mexico’s program that underwrites the cost of animal control officers to attend professional training through the National Animal Control Association, Code 3 Associates and other institutions. In six years, APNM has underwritten over $75,000 in training scholarships and stipends for law enforcement officers across New Mexico.
Recently Officer Ryan D. Garrett used funds from the Teddy Fund to attend a course by Code 3 Associates to enhance his education; this will have a direct and positive impact on his career and the animals in his care. Officer Garrett is a great example of Animal Protection of New Mexico’s Teddy Fund in action!
Code 3 Associates offer a diverse and informative set of academies and classes focused on animal issues in humane investigations and disaster response. These courses are designed to educate a wide variety of professionals, including animal control officers, veterinary professionals, first responders, animal welfare workers, Department of Agriculture employees and members of animal rescue groups. Nationally accepted certifications are offered for the classes where there are recognized standards. For the classes that do not yet have accepted standards, Code 3 Associates is working to develop certifications while continuing to offer these very important subjects. In all cases, the instructors used are experts in their field and have been chosen for their dynamic style of instruction.
Code 3 Associates’
Equine Investigations Academy, all new
Cruelty Investigator’s Academy,
Big Useful Livestock Lessons and
Animal Disaster Responder Academy are now certified in partnership with Colorado State University and Colorado State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Here is Officer Garrett’s perspective on the training:
Randi, all I can say is THANK YOU!!!! This was by far the BEST Training I have taken to date. It was very hands on and VERY, VERY Informational.
In a nut shell we learned how to properly secure and remove injured or trapped livestock, how to properly move and handle livestock and how to set up and do a livestock triage. All of this information has better equipped me and my department for any and ALL emergency situations involving livestock here in Bernalillo County.
Again, THANK YOU so much for the scholarship for this course. I am very grateful for it.
Sincerely,
Officer Ryan Garrett
Bernalillo County Animal Care Services
