Last week, on July 26, an Albuquerque resident found a dead black-and-white-colored domestic cat in the 10400 block of Gloria Place NE. It was determined by the City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department that the homeless cat, whom area residents called “Prissy,” had been shot by a bullet or pellet that had lodged in her lungs or midsection, resulting in her death. The incident has launched an investigation by city officials. If caught, the cat’s shooter could face charges that include extreme cruelty to animals, a fourth degree felony in New Mexico. It is also illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits.
