Channel 4 News (New Mexico): New Mexico's Wildlife Treated as Garbage

"Charges Filed in Coyote Dumping"

The Albuquerque Journal (3/8/07) announced that charges were filed in the dumping of at least 20 skinned coyote carcasses in an arroyo west of Albuquerque. Rio Rancho resident Scott Witney, 37, gave a written statement to the sheriff's department claiming responsibility for the illegal dumping. The only law Witney violated was a county ordinance making it illegal to dump garbage. Whitney could face up to 364 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine. Perhaps the real tragedy in this incident is that no state or federal wildlife laws were violated.
