Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White Honored For Being a Defender of Animals
On August 31 on behalf of APNM, accomplished actor and activist Ali MacGraw presented a plaque to Bernalillo County Sheriff, Darren White, for speaking up for animals and publicly denouncing animal cruelty. White adopted a puppy–now named Trixie–whose ears were intentionally cut by four Albuquerque men. White also made public statements about the seriousness of animal cruelty, and was being honored for being a role model for law enforcement officers in New Mexico. The four Albuquerque men who cut the puppy’s ears were arrested and charged with fourth degree felony animal cruelty. City police discovered one of the four perpetrators is alleged to be an unregistered sex offender in Arizona. This underscores that those who harm animals are also a potential danger to people.
