Co-sponsors: Defenders of Wildlife, Alaska Wilderness League, and NMPIRG.
We’re hosting a party on Saturday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to watch several great new movies provided by our co-sponsors: being caribou (Alaska Wilderness League) and Oil on Ice (Sierra Club and USPIRG). These movies put a human (and wildlife) face on the Bush administration’s efforts to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. We hope you will join us!
We decided to host this party because the Senate is likely to vote within a few days after the party on whether to allow oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge, and this party provides a good opportunity to bring friends and ideas together to let our elected Senators Domenici and Bingaman know that we want them to vote to protect the Refuge. Thousands of other people will be throwing similar parties around the country at the same time.
We will share some snacks, watch the movies, and talk about protecting the environment and our wildlife. Stamps, post cards and letter writing supplies (and laptops) will be provided to contact Senator Bingaman and Congressman Udall to thank them for their continuous support. These items will also be available to contact Senator Domenici and Congresswoman Wilson to urge them to protect the Refuge and to concentrate on viable energy alternatives with reductions of usage and renewable energy and energy efficiency, (Did you know that Brazil, the world’s 7th largest economy, has a 90% renewable energy program.) Also, detailed information (Defenders of Wildlife, NM PIRG, Alaska Wilderness League, and current news articles) on the Arctic Refuge area, photographs, why this last remaining pristine area in the Arctic is so important, and predictions on global warming, world population, and other issues will be available for educational purposes. A hybrid vehicle may also be on display.
To come, just email me back at email@example.com or call me at 992-1701 for directions. Our address is: 1306 Lejano Lane, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
We’re looking forward to seeing you – this party should be fun and a good opportunity to help build further support for our own environmental concerns in New Mexico. Bring along friends and family – the more people who attend, the more of an impact we’ll make.
