Noah’s Wish Volunteer In-Field Disaster Training

Noah's Wish, a national disaster response team solely dedicated to rescuing and sheltering animals in both natural and man-made disasters, will be conducting a Volunteer In-Field Training in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the weekend of June 11, 12 and 13. This training opportunity is for both our experienced volunteers as well as recruiting new volunteers.

This comprehensive three day in-field exercise will involve setting up a temporary animal shelter, similar to one that would be created during an actual disaster. To further authenticate the training, animals will be on site periodically to help teach volunteers the animal intake process and animal handling as it pertains to disaster victims. Class will be a combination of instructional teaching and hands-on experience. The participants will stay on site during the training, sleeping in their own tents at night, in order to give them a realistic experience of the physical challenges of responding to a disaster.

The training will be conducted by an experienced five-member team of Noah's Wish Staff and Coordinators who have collectively participated in more than 70 disasters. Terri Crisp, Founder and Director of Noah's Wish, is the acclaimed author of "Out of Harm's Way" and "Emergency Animal Rescue Stories", as well as being featured in "Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul". She has been saving animals in disasters since 1983, participating in 60 major disaster relief efforts across the United States, Canada and abroad - making her the expert in the field of managing animals in disasters. Crisp, who is a highly sought after speaker, will lead the training.

Once a participant completes the Volunteer In-Field Training, they will become part of the Noah's Wish National Disaster Response Team, and placed on an active call-out list to be alerted and possibly mobilized to future disasters.
