Valentine's Day Is Around The Corner, Who Do You Love?
APNM sends out love and admiration to those who help advance work for animals in New Mexico!

On Valentine's Day, we all take a little time to send a message of love and thanks to those around us who touch our hearts. This year we would like to share a few stories about those who are loved by APNM.

We Love the ASPCA!

ASPCA

Thank You to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) for their support of APNM programs in 2013! ASPCA grants in 2012 and 2013 provide support for important APNM initiatives, including our statewide animal shelter program, our animal relocation coordination efforts, our equine protection program development and the ability to send APNM's Disaster Preparedness Coordinator to attend the 2012 Animals in Disaster Summit in Washington, DC.

Courtney and Sharon

New Mexico Dept. of Homeland Security & Emergency Management's Courtney McBride and APNM's Sharon Jonas attend 2012 Summit: National Alliance of State Animal and Agricultural Emergency Programs. The Summit was an excellent opportunity to learn from and network with disaster response agencies from across the U.S. – and a big help as we prepare for another drastically dry year in New Mexico!

Lauren Ranghell

We Love Animal Shelter Workers!

APNM is investing significant resources to help New Mexico animal shelters enhance their capacity to humanely care for companion animals, increase adoptions and spay-neuters, reduce euthanasia rates and lead to more meaningful public and private support of shelters. One particular individual, Lauren Ranghelli, stands out for her brilliant work as a behaviorist with the Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department. One such example is that she established a low-stress behavior room at the East Side Animal Shelter, with toys and games for dogs. In addition, she trained volunteers about better ways to interact with dogs that will increase their chances for adoption, and established supervised dog play groups at the shelter.

We Love Humane Educators!

We love teachers who share their concern, expertise and love for animals with their students. An outstanding Los Lunas advocate for animals is Valencia Elementary School's fifth-grade teacher, Robyn Albani. Robyn has brought APNM's “Open Heart = Open Mind” humane education curriculum into her classrooms for the past two years. Her empathy for all who suffer needlessly is a lifetime concern both inside and outside her classroom. By fostering and finding homes for discarded animals, and sharing these experiences with her students, Robyn serves as an outstanding role model for not only her students, but also her community.

Valencia County Team

We also love Cindy Wacek, who assists Educational Outreach Director Sherry Mangold with APNM's “Open Heart = Open Mind” curriculum as the co-facilitator. Cindy is a New Mexico-licensed K-12 teacher whose love of animals takes her into classrooms across the state. With the help of her own therapy dogs, Cindy provides tips on care and maintenance, creates computerized presentations and shares personal anecdotes about her own lifetime experiences with animals. Cindy also serves as the secretary for Valencia County's Quixote Humane and is the newsletter editor for Southwest Canine Corps of Volunteers. We love Cindy's dedication to New Mexico's children and animals!

We Love Our Local Businesses: It's a Project From The Heart!

Once again, animal-loving businesses have offered to set aside a donation or, for a limited time, a portion of their sales to APNM for the special Valentine's Day promotion known as Project From The Heart. These generous businesses would love your patronage. Won't you consider stopping by to participate?

Barn Dogs

Barn Dogs in Santa Fe, which sells horse supplies and ranch and work wear, will donate 5% of their sales between February 16th and 23rd to APNM to help New Mexico horses in need. We love you, Barn Dogs, for also partnering with APNM in the Horse Blanket Drive this very cold winter! Already this year we have received good condition equine coverings from as far away as California.

Project From The Heart

We love you, and you love New Mexico!

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you who provide financial support for APNM's campaigns and programs, and to all of you who follow our work! Don't forget, there is no time like right now to show that you love New Mexico and want to make it a better place for animals. Show your commitment by getting involved with the work of Animal Protection Voters at the current 60-day session of the New Mexico State Legislature. APV needs your voice to help pass legislation that protects animals. Join us for Animal Lobby Day this February 25 and help change the laws that change their lives!
