(Love Your Animal Health Fair)

On June 20th Santa Ana Pueblo hosted the “Love Your Animal Health Fair” on pueblo grounds just north of Bernalillo.  The Santa Fe Humane Society’s Mobile Spay and Neuter Van was on site, and surgeries were performed on 29 dogs.  A free rabies and low-cost vaccination clinic serviced over 100 animals.

Booths representing Animal Protection of New Mexico, Greyhound Companions of New Mexico, New Mexico Dogs Deserve Better and Southwest Canine Corps of Volunteers supplied the crowds with educational materials, coloring books for children and nutritional food samples for companion animals.  Albuquerque’s Long Leash On Life, a well-known and highly appreciated community partner, donated cases of dog and cat food to supply an Animal Food Bank for the pueblo.

The morning was filled with horseback riding, agility dog demonstrations, greyhounds and therapy dogs—all interacting and entertaining the fair’s participants.  Both children and adults learned how patience, persistence and love create a loving, healthy and talented companion animal. The fair was capped off with a complimentary lunch.

APNM salutes Cheryl Russell, Five Sandoval Indian Pueblo Community Health Representative, and her enthusiastic committee  for all they do for the animals and residents of Santa Ana Pueblo.
