We are pleased to announce the award of a $5000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to help New Mexico’s horses through APNM’s new Equine Protection Fund!
The ASPCA’s donation to the Equine Protection Fund (Fund) will be used to help individuals in dire financial need to feed their horses, keeping horses healthy and with their families. An advisory committee consisting of horsemen and horsewomen from all over the state, receiving leadership and assistance from APNM, will manage the Fund. Grants for individual assistance could begin as early as November.
APNM worked this summer to establish the Equine Protection Fund at the New Mexico Community Foundation, one of our state’s most respected public charities. Concerns of starving and abandoned horses have increased as the economy has declined. We are currently planning and fundraising for an ambitious, but needed, set of programs to address the large holes in the system on behalf of New Mexico’s equines.
We will keep you posted with updates, including news of an Equine Protection Fund launch event, as we work to engage NM’s varied horse communities and industries in this groundbreaking work for equines!

Many thanks to the
ASPCA for their generous support!
