Give Back to New Mexico's Equines

While equines have been a part of our communities for centuries, today's equines deserve the best care we can give them.
|
Equines have long been valued members of New Mexican communities. Our horses (and donkeys, mules and burros) have done everything from hauling supplies to providing companionship in lonely desert expanses.
But in recent years, the situation for New Mexico's equines has grown dire. Calls to statewide animal cruelty hotlines reflect a dramatic increase in equines suffering neglect and cruelty. For this reason, APNM has created
Equine Protection Fund a program created to minimize the suffering of equines and seek solutions to their pressing needs.
The Fund can only do so much, however, without the assistance of volunteers. Please fill out the online survey for the Fund’s statewide volunteer network and then pass it along to your family and friends:

The survey lists a variety of ways to offer assistance – donations of feed, land, shelter, supplies, and skills – and the opportunities are nearly endless for anyone who wants to help a needy equine.
One New Mexican with several equines, including Don Quixote (see photo), was assisted by the Equine Protection Fund, in conjunction with friends and neighbors. She shared her experience with APNM:
"Doors opened that I wouldn't have seen before. My neighbors (the best on the planet) worked for days and days and days, literally, from dawn 'til night, helping me to pack, and helping me transport the horses. I have been moved by the generosity and greatness of humanity, and will ever remain humbled by it."
It's time for New Mexico communities to give back to their equines. Please join our statewide volunteer network today!
