APNM Speaks Up for Horses

Horses are in a unique position - revered icons of the American West, yet often lacking the protection and resources afforded to other companion animals. The state’s animal cruelty hotlines have seen an increase in the number of calls related to equine neglect and abuse, linked to the decline of the economy.

New Mexicans may have read about these problems in association with horse slaughter. Some call the slaughtering of horses for human consumption a “necessary evil” – we couldn’t disagree more! Our horses deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Please see the attached article (pdf) for analysis of the broad problems equines face and solutions APNM is working towards.
