Dog Expert Says Key to Understanding Dogs
Is to See World from their Point of View
"Chaining dogs unleashes bad behavior"
Life on the end of a chain is no life for a dog. Animal Protection of New Mexico is working to help dogs who are continuously chained by suggesting alternatives to chaining, including the best option: train the dog.
We were happy to come across a terrific
guest article in
USA TODAY speaking up against chaining, by dog expert Victoria Stilwell. Stilwell’s article “Chaining dogs unleashes bad behavior” touches on the mistakes that many people make when they keep their dogs confined in a yard, and chained.
For a more in-depth study of the impact of keeping dogs on chains, you’re welcome to

Animal Humane Cuts Red Ribbon
on New Retail Adoption Center
Albuquerque has a shiny new permanent location for animal adoptions. On February 6, Animal Humane New Mexico opened a retail adoption center in the northeast heights, which the private shelter hopes will increase its adoptions, 3,900 in 2009, by an additional 800 animals per year.
By offering adoptable animals in closer proximity to more potential adopters, the 2,390 square foot adoption center extends the shelter’s reach from its campus on Virginia St. in Albuquerque’s southeast heights, offering many of the resources and items for sale that the original location offers. A meet and greet area for dog-to-dog introductions is ready for new pals’ introductions. The shelter’s new Animal Outfitters location at the adoption center will offer the same quality foods available on Virginia St., and necessities such as leashes, collars, dishes and toys.
