Trigo Fire in Manzanos Moves Rescuers to Prepare for Possible Animal Evacuations

Call for Resource Assistance from Public

Public can help animals even before disaster situations occur, by offering rescue/relocation resources.

Animal Protection of New Mexico is closely monitoring the status of fires burning around the state. Our offer of support has been extended to agencies that help families with companion animals or livestock, for the safe evacuation of their animals.

At present, an evacuation of the Manzano Mountains/Trigo Fire area is not mandatory.

APNM is preparing for possible animal evacuations in support of, and at the direction of, the New Mexico Emergency Management Department and the New Mexico Livestock Board.

PUBLIC CALL TO ACTION: If anyone has resources to help transport or house animals from the fire areas, please contact APNM.

Please provide your name, address, county of residence, phone numbers and e-mail address. Then please let us know if you can offer transportation for livestock or companion animals (dogs and cats); if you can offer shelter for displaced animals (stalls, barn space, or fenced yard); or if you can offer both transportation and shelter.

Thank you for your concern and involvement.
