NEW MEXICO'S SPAY/NEUTER PET CARE LICENSE PLATE
In 2003, New Mexico State Representative Irvin Harrison (D - Gallup) sponsored HB566, the legislation that authorized the creation and sale of New Mexico's Spay/Neuter Pet Care License Plate.
In 2005, Animal Protection of New Mexico joined the effort, working with the Motor Vehicle Department and others to have the plate designed and produced. The license plate design, created by Josh Leach while he was a design student at Albuquerque's Art Center Design College, is a colorful and eye-catching pawprint over an outline of New Mexico and it includes the message: Don't Litter. Spay - Neuter.
The purpose of the plate is twofold: to educate people about the pet overpopulation issue facing New Mexico and to help fund spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats in New Mexico. It is critically important for communities throughout the state to get involved in solving our dog and cat overpopulation crisis. Everyone needs to work together to reduce the euthanasia numbers confronting shelters in New Mexico. New Mexico's Pet Care License Plate is one effective tool, among many others, that will help solve the problem. A portion of the price of each license plate will be distributed to fund local spay/neuter programs.
The Spay/Neuter Pet Care License Plate must be ordered from the Motor Vehicle Department. Order forms can be obtained at any MVD office or downloaded from their website at:
