Flo’s 53rd birthday is September 29th. The oldest chimpanzee at Alamogordo Primate Facility, and one of the oldest in captivity, Flo is currently facing re-entry into invasive research. As reported in a recent Associated Press story, “…the chimps can generate revenue: Researchers are charged up to $70,000 to use a chimp for a single experiment.”

Undercover investigators filmed terrible treatment at a chimpanzee lab in 2009. United States Department of Agriculture reports detail violations at the lab eager to receive the Alamogordo Primate Facility chimps. The United States is the last developed nation still using chimpanzees in invasive research. Yet still, the National Institutes of Health has said they will give the chimps until 2011 in New Mexico before shipping them to Southwest National Primate Research Center for further invasive testing.
In honor of Flo’s birthday, please consider a donation to Animal Protection of New Mexico to help ensure that next year Flo is not suffering invasive research to generate revenue for an invasive research lab.
Below please find highlights of recent media coverage and the growing list of supporters to retire these chimpanzees from invasive research – click on the links to read more information. Now is the time to call your congressional delegation.
Please remember, Flo cannot call to plead for release from research for herself and her colleagues, she needs you to speak up for her. See
